Next finish out of 11: the Mrs Jumbo quilted zipper bag
The weather was finally sunny here, after many overcast days, and I was able to have a photoshoot of my latest make, the Mrs Jumbo quilted zipper bag:
From time to time, I sew scraps together with no ambition to finish a zipper bag but knowing that I’ll eventually pick the piece up and use it. The elephant panel was one of such creations:
I could see that the panel would need a scrap on the left hand side, to allow the face of the elephant to have a bit of breathing room, so I added it. And then I needed the panel for the other side.
Luckily, I have a lot of resources to draw from! This is how the workspace next to my sewing machine often looks: These were the scrappy pieces that seemed most suited to become the other side of the elephant-paneled zipper bag: I took the picture so I’d remember how to organise the blocks. Did I organise them like this? No I didn’t, as you can see: The two sides of the Mrs Jumbo zipper bag do not resemble each other, though they share a similar colour palette – at least sort of. I’ve figured that one never sees both sides of a zipper bag anyway, so they don’t have to match. (Both sides do have to match the same zipper, though.)
This time, I splurged and used a piece of pretty Kaffe Fassett fabric for the lining: As you probably can guess from the above photo, Mrs Jumbo is again one of the Open series zipper bags. Here are her measurements:
Whenever there is a creature on one of the scraps on the surface, a stitching line will inevitably hit its eyes. No matter where I start, the eyes will always get it and I cannot understand why. However, this time I managed to avoid that, and I congratulate myself for it.
One more, sunny picture of the Mrs Jumbo quilted zipper bag – the flip side: This side doesn’t look bad either. It is only because of the fabulous, lush colours on the elephant side that this pretty panel is relegated to being the flip side.
So, Mrs Jumbo is the second zipper bag finish out of the 11 that I needed. Meaning, only nine more to finish, and I will have reached my silly goal.
